Background

Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Dhalai was sanctioned and established on 16th July 2005 by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) – Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI), Zone VII, Umiam, Meghalaya vide F.No 9-23/2-22-AE-1 dated 15-07-2005 under the Host Institute of Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Govt. of Tripura.

Institution Role

A District Level Institution (Farm Science Centre) engaged in the transfer of the latest agricultural technologies to the end users for bridging the gap between production and productivity.

Mandate of KVK

1.On Farm Testing (OFTs)

3.Training Programmes (Farmers, Farm Women, Rural Youth, Extension Personnel, and NGOs) in On/Off campus, Vocational and sponsored by other Institutes etc.

Major Activities of KVK

Paddy varieties Sahbhagi Dhan, CO-51, Tripura Hakuchuk-2, Gomati, Tripura Nirog, Swarna Sub-1, Tripura Chikon Dhan – those varieties are also tested by KVK as per the instruction of ICAR and now most of the varieties are cultivated by farmers.

2.Blackgram (Tripura Maskolai, IPU-02-43), field pea (variety TRC-P-8) through technology assessment and FLDs and adopted in a large scale under rice pulse cropping system to enhance the productivity and profitability

3.Quality protein Maize (Var. VLQPM Hybrid -45) in Rice-maize cropping sequence

4.Nutri Cereals – Finger millets and Foxtail Millets varieties and standard packages recommended to farmers

5.Indian Mustard variety NRCHB-101 already established

6.Disease resistance varieties of different vegetables recommended by KVKs

7.Standardized, recommended and adopted Tuberlet production from TPS

8.IPM & IDM modules

9.BND cross of poultry – duel purpose poultry for more productivity

10.Standardized, recommended the Growth performance & survival of Pabda (Ompokbimaculatus) in carp Polyculture system
